There goes the neighborhood for Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] - the only presidential hopeful gracing the cobblestoned, old-money streets of Beacon Hill these days.
Three of Kerry's well-heeled Louisburg Square neighbors broke ranks with the presumptive Democratic nominee and wrote $2,000 checks to President Bush's re-election campaign, according to www.fundrace.org, a new Web site that tracks campaign cash down to the street level.
Bush has collected $46,000 in Kerry's 02108 ZIP code home turf, while Kerry has pulled in $85,250.
Among the Bush donors is his aunt Nancy E. Ellis, Donna DePrisco of DePrisco Jewelers and well-known GOP money man Thomas Kershaw of ``Cheers'' bar fame.
The stately Federal-style red-brick townhouses at Louisburg Square, framing the tidy oval-shaped half-acre private park, are considered Boston's most exclusive address - and the heart of Kerry Country in Massachusetts, a Democratic stronghold.
Over at 5 Louisburg Square, Staples office supply founder Thomas G. Stemberg contributed $2,000 to Bush, as did his former wife, Dola Stemberg.
Steven E. Karol, chairman and CEO of HMK Enterprises, also whipped off a $2,000 check to the president's campaign. Karol, however, appeared to be hedging his political bets. He also maxed out to next-door neighbor Kerry, who lives at the corner mansion at 19 Louisburg Square, with a $2,000 contribution.
Eight other Louisburg Square residents shelled out $15,125 for the Bay State senator, who co-owns his $13 million six-story townhouse with his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry.
The roster of $2,000 Kerry donors includes Democratic activist Christopher Gabrielli; Peter Deroeth, an investor at Account Management L.L.C.; and Amos B. Hostetter, CEO of Pilot House Associates.
